History and update of our Parish Development Plan

Summary of the Plan:

  • With inputs from the parish at large, including surveys, meetings and presentations, the Parish Development Committee  created a plan to build a church, social hall, and rectory at the Smith Ranch property in Silverthorne, to replace Our Lady of Peace; and renovate the interior area between the old and new churches at St Mary for better seating, religious education, meeting and social space.  Total construction cost (not including Smith Ranch property) was estimated at $5,240,000.

  • A capital campaign to raise the $2.665 million (needed in addition to existing assets) was approved by the Archdiocese of Denver in December 2009, and the Cosgriff Company  was contracted to help undertake the fundraising Campaign.

  • The firm of Eidos Architects was hired to develop design documents, and submit a PUD plan (zoning) to the Town of Silverthorne.

Milestones Achieved to Date:

  • We reached our first financial goal of $2.665 Million in pledges and one-time gifts in mid-summer of 2010, and at year end, we had reached the 50% of our construction costs in cash required to move forward.

  • Final PUD approval from the Town of Silverthorne was granted in December 2010, after the second reading at Town Council.

  • We solicited information from over a dozen general contractors, interviewed several, and selected Himmelman Construction from Lakewood, a contractor with Catholic church building experience, acceptable to the Archdiocese, to begin pre-construction services. These services include developing a detailed construction plan and budget, with the explicit requirement of utilizing as many local Summit County contractors and subcontractors as we can.
  •  We received approval from the Archdicoese of Denver to proceed to construction contract, and to borrow funds as needed until pedge payments are complete, and real estate is sold.
    • St Mary
Construction began on September 6, 2011, and will be complete in December 2011.
    • Our Lady of Peace
We are well underway with construction and expect to open in summer, 2012.

  • We will continue to ask our visitors to contribute financially, via 2nd collections and visitor envelopes, throughout the ski and summer seasons, to enable us to achieve our next financial milestone of successfully completing the campaign.  We will also continue to encourage those who have already pledged to fulfill their pledge as soon as they are able, to minimize the costs of borrowing as we move forward.

  • As construction moves forward, we will utilize a line of credit to fund expenses in excess of available cash.

After we have relocated to the new Our Lady of Peace facility, we will sell the existing Dillon Valley properties, to complete our funding.

Please continue to keep our Parish Development project in your prayers, as God has been gracious and confirmed our efforts each step of the way!
