Parish Councils
Pastoral Council:
The Pastoral Council is a consultative and advisory to the Pastor, and its service is governed by Canons 511-514. The Pastor is ex-Officio President of the body, and the Council fulfils its purpose under the authority of the Pastor. By mandate of the pastor and under his direction, the Council is called upon to reflect and exam those things pertaining to the pastoral activities, apostolic works of the Parish, to weigh them carefully, and to help discern practical resolutions in such a way as to further the mission of the St. Mary and Our Lady of Peace Parish.
Purpose of the Pastoral Council:
- To prayerfully reflect on and discuss with the Pastor matters with relate to the overall welfare of the Summit County Catholic Community.
- To collaborate with other ecclesial consultative groups and/or individual, as appropriate to further the pastoral service of the church.
- To assist the Pastor in understanding the pastoral needs and circumstances of the people entrusted to his care, and in enhancing his pastoral ministry to them.
- To carry out other functions with the Pastor may entrust to the Council from time to time.

Finance Council:
The Finance Council is a consultative body that assists the Pastor in meeting financial and administrative obligations and is governed by Canons 492-494, 537. Consultation is at the heart of the decision-making process – sharing information, listening, contributing to the discussion, and promoting consensus.
Responsibilities of the Finance Council:
- Advise the Pastor on all acts of extraordinary administration, before he seeks the approval of the diocesan Bishop.
- Assist and participate in developing the annual parish budget and recommend the final budget for approval to the Pastor.
- Review the interim (at least quarterly) financial statements of the parish. The Finance Council should address significant revenue and expense variances from the approved budget.
- Annually each parish is required to send its Annual Report to the Archbishop that is signed by the Pastor and each finance council member.
- Assist the Pastor in keeping the Parish financial obligations (accounts payable and other parish borrowings) current.
- Review any indebtedness of the parish and assist in developing and monitoring the plan for repayment.
- Review the parish's internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Advise the Pastor in the assessment of offertory giving levels and the effectiveness of existing fund-raising programs.
